I’ve been thinking for a long time about how I would love to start a series, of a bit of a round up of my year, a way to look back on it in years to come with a snapshot of what happened that year. Going forward I will blogging and documenting a lot more, so you will find out a lot of what is going on real time – as we all know I have been pretty slack on the blogging front this year, but Project: Blog Everyday is underway.
Not only is this blog a platform for business and behind the scenes work, inspiration posts etc, but also for personal ramblings, trips, projects as a way to look back. The year 2017 was incredibly eventful, successful but also labor-intensive and despite the ups and downs overall it has been amazing! I would love to share my favourite moments, experiences and highlights of the year – some might seem really small, but I would love to share these – a lot of these are captured on the go and some taken on my professional camera. This year one of my habits I am starting is keeping my professional camera out all the time rather than packed away in my camera bag as when this happens I then just tend to grab my phone.
So I just wanted to share a couple for now that spring to mind – there have been loads of favourite moments, but if I wrote them all down I would be writing for a really long time haha!
*Spent time with friends and family. To me it is really important that I schedule time with my friends and family. Whilst my business is super important to me and consumes most of my time as I really want to grow it to be the best it can be, I get serious FOMO and whilst I work during the week, I also have to work a lot of weekends away so that means sometimes I miss out. I try and book out at the start of the year weekends out of my diary or at least one day of a weekend once a month where I can spend it with friends and family. I am so grateful I did this!
*This one isn’t one I have shared with many people but back in 2011 I had a problem with the skin on my ankle – a skin condition that was wrongly diagnosed by several Doctors I had seen over the year. They prescribed me treatments, ointments, steroid creams and none of them worked. Finally in March I managed to see the specialist who prescribed me the right cream and it was gone…all cleared within 4 days!!!
*Had lots of beach walks! I adore being near the coast, it’s where I grew up, it makes me feel calm and relaxed and I genuinely think being on the beach, out in the fresh air, near the coast is good for the soul.
*Visited my Mum who was living in the Alps at the start of the year and helped her grow her business. It was super fun to fly out and see her and spend a couple of days with her. My skiing has really improved on this last trip, and I absolutely love it now! It was hit and miss for a little while if I would continue…I now have the complete ski bug and want to go every year!
*Started getting into the depths of wedding planning. Secured our wedding venue, confirmed our photographer, visited with family so they could check out the venue, got my dress (eek!) sorted out decoration ideas etc. There is still alot more to do and we are upping the planning in February as we get married THIS year! I can’t believe it. We got engaged in April 2016 and our wedding date seemed so so far away and now it’s almost here I can’t quite believe it and I know these next 9 months are going to fly by!
*We celebrated our 10 year anniversary! We started our celebrations by giving Notice of Marriage, wondered around Winchester our local city – had mulled wine in the Christmas Market and finished our day having a beautiful Tasting Menu at The Chesil Rectory!
*Saw 2 of our best friends get married this year. I love weddings – I am such a romantic at heart!
* I was asked to collaborate with Yankee Candle! Anyone who knows me knows I have an obsession with candles and they are all over our house, so when I received their email to photograph their new Coastal Candle Collection, to say I was over the moon was an understatement. They sent us away for a wonderful weekend break in Camber Sands where we stayed in a quirky coastal cottage, seconds away from the beach front. Was definitely a highlight for the year.
*Was featured in local and national bridal magazines and on some of my favourite wedding blogs!
*Was voted Top 100 UK Wedding Photographers in 2017 by Your Perfect Wedding Photographer – such an honour!
*Had incredible reviews from my clients this year and the loveliest thank you cards and gifts! I truly am so grateful to all the couples I work with.
