I find it really difficult to listen to podcasts whilst I am working. Music, I could listen to all day, but podcasts I find I really want to concentrate on what’s being said that I can’t do both at the same time. I save listening to my podcasts for long car journeys, flights or on my dog walks….which is obviously everyday, or when I am having a quiet morning with a cup of tea!
But there are some really incredible free podcasts out there! Curly, my fiance, has always been really into them, but more podcasts that are like movie reviews. I didn’t realise there was a whole world of learning material out there ranging from so many different categories!
So I thought I would share some of my favourite podcasts that I am currently listening to…
I recently read Liz’s book Big Magic, which I thought was brilliant! Also went to one of her keynotes about living creatively, which was amazing, if you’re interested I could do a post on this….comment below! Recently found that she had then realised a podcast series, currently, there are 2 seasons of it! It expands on so many of her points in her book, living and working creatively, living through the fear and the dream as she is interviewing other creatives. They are really chatty, and not necessarily specific to what I do as a photographer, or about business, but it definitely gets me thinking and sparks lots of ideas! The first season was much shorter podcasts and the second season are like hour long episodes, but I really enjoy listening to them and would highly recommend them if you are in a creative profession or have a creative hobby.
I first came across CreativeLive back when I first started learning to become a photographer back in 2011. Chase Jarvis founded CreativeLive back in 2010 and it is an incredible education platform, that I recommend to so many people!! And it is now huge and doesn’t just focus on photographers, but so many different areas of education, lessons, occupations – it really is amazing! Definitely, check it out! Anyway, Chase is an incredible photographer, artist and entrepreneur. I recently came across his podcasts when I heard one of his interviews with Richard Branson and another one with Gary Vaynerchuk. In this show, Chase interviews some of the top creative entrepreneurs, artists, and celebrities in a really informal casual interview! I find that some of the advice is incredible, the stories shared are really inspiring and help recognize passions and achieve goals. I would really recommend listening to the Tim Ferris interview! It is one of my favourites!
Now you might be thinking, Charlotte, this is old news! Everyone was raving about this last year! However, you may have never heard of it, so these are for you people who haven’t got a clue what I am on about! I first listened to an episode of Serial last year back in the Summer. I am not really into Crime stories or things like that, but this story is so interesting. It is really well told by the American journalist, Sarah Koenig, and I think that was part of what got me hooked! She is basically asked to look back over an old murder case and the podcast follows the plot, timeline and people involved in the case with unexpected twists! Its really good, I would recommend it for something different to try.
Jenna Kutcher is one of my fav #Girlboss who I hugely respect and look up to! She has such amazing advice and interviews incredible business owners on her podcast. She is open about her business, her successes and failures, she talks things business and personal and just, in general, I love checking into this podcast and would recommend it to any women who has her own business looking for a resource/mentor.
So there are some of my current favourites. I have a few on my list to check out or that have been recommended to me and will check out soon:
