I fell in love with yoga a couple of years ago when I went to a class with one of my closest friends Sarah. Granted there was a lot of sly looks and giggling to start with….we were both useless but after some time I really got into it.When I moved to London I attended a class of Bikram Yoga and wow, I’ve never felt so incredibly hot, uncomfortable, out of my comfort one.
But straight after my class, yes ridiculously sweaty, I felt exhilarated and super positive! Such a weird feeling when I basically felt like I was about to pass out!
I went with a girl I worked with at the time – our experiences where very difference, she moaned about every step, how hot it was, how hard it was, tough, uncomfortable, how long was left of the class. Anything and everything.
Mindset is such an important aspect to trying new things. I didn’t let this put me off and ended up falling in love with it, attending at least 3 times a week. The benefits where absolutely incredible and I felt such a difference in my posture, my sleep and how I felt in general.
Somewhere along the lines I stopped going. I think it was mainly that I moved away from London and there aren’t many hot yoga studios nearby where I lived in Dorset – the closest one to me is a 25 minute drive away. This year I decided that I wanted to challenge myself to get back into yoga and have signed up for 6 weeks of sessions of normal yoga in my local village. Last week was my first class and it felt so amazing to get back into it. Being so aware of my body, my lack of strength at the moment and how much I struggled, but also feeling some familiarity and feeling where I could push my body to limits. Quickly changing my mindset and listening to the wonderful words of the instructor Suzanne, I fell right back into it and I can’t wait for this week’s class.
I want to make yoga a daily habit at home – it’s just making the conscious effort and time to do it, and just start! They say it takes 21 days to make something a habit. So starting from today, I am going to set myself a goal to complete it every day for 21 days! Wish me luck.
